Angie Loveday
Young, Wild, and Me
Let’s hear some praise
For the young, wild, and free,
Those who can, those who can’t,
Scream loud “Just wanna be me”.
Full of love, full of hate.
All they want is a change
In the world that they see,
In the world they rearrange.
With beauty in their thoughts
But destruction in their fists.
Forget all about the old,
Bring back new worlds with a twist.
Here we are, calling out
“Prejudice should never win”.
Yet we’re met with disdain
And our patience’s wearing thin.
Who are you, to tell us,
Who we must hate or not love
With excuses of the past
And threats of what’s up above.
So again, let’s hear some praise
For the young, wild, tough, and free
For we fight to survive
With no safety guarantee.
I Am All, I Am None
Within the confines of my body
I can feel the struggle of two or more warring sides
That seek to hold dominance over each other.
Day by day the winner changes.
The type of event I’m attending
Varying the degree of emergence.
A sea with tidal currents
That sweep from one side but
The other fights back.
The time, the wind, the season
Determines which one I feel
But if you’re swimming deep
There is one on top of the other,
Pulling in different direction
With some calm in the middle or surface.
Call me anything you’d like although
More often than not you’ll adhere
To the one that’s been assigned.
Truly I have no preference.
To me it’s not about not being me.
I am who I am, but I am more inside.
Multiple sides that want to break free
Perhaps all at once.
But for now at least,
I push those feelings down.
I don’t want to deal with it
And I know how lucky I am
That I can choose to not do so.
That I haven’t had a surprise definitive winner
That cannot be contained.
Secure in my feeling that
Although I am what I am,
And I am all these things,
I can hold off on sharing
Just a little longer and perhaps,
In the future, I’ll feel safe enough
To listen to the voices more clearly
Without feeling a need to hide.
